Motama Expands DVB Gateways with DVB-T, DVB-ASI, and Customized Servers

Motama's TVCaster product family now provides support for DVB-T and DVB-ASI, and offers customized servers with arbitrary combinations of DVB-S2 and DVB-T inputs.

Saarbrucken, Germany, March 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), meaning the transmission of digital television over the Internet or local area IP networks, is becoming increasingly important. IPTV not only allows for serving millions of users with broadband content, but also provides transmission of content in hospitality and health care, in universities, schools, and corporations, and in IP networks in private homes.

Motama, a leading supplier of distributed multimedia solutions, extends input features of its rack mountable 19” server appliances for IPTV, called TVCaster. TVCaster is a turn-key solution offering all cutting-edge functionality you expect from an integrated DVB receiver, descrambler, remultiplexer, and IP streaming server.

In addition to the existing TVCaster servers for DVB-S2, four new products extend the TVCaster product family and are available as of today.

Both, TVCaster 200-T with two inputs in a 1U chassis and TVCaster 300-T CI with three inputs in a 2U chassis allow for receiving DVB-T signals. TVCaster 300-T CI also offers two Common Interface (CI) slots to hold Conditional Access Modules (CAM) for Pay-TV. All TV and radio channels received from DVB-T can be forwarded individually as IP streams with up to 500 Mbps of outgoing bandwidth, which offers enough resources for streaming each channel several times.

TVCaster 300-FLEX CI offers an arbitrary and customer-defined combination of three inputs with DVB-T and DVB-S2 with two Common Interface (CI) slots. The server offers a cost-effective solution for receiving global satellite feeds from DVB-S2 and local channels from DVB-T in a single 2U chassis.

TVCaster 400-ASI offers four DVB-ASI inputs in a 1U chassis. The server is targeted towards professional setups in which DVB-ASI feeds of existing equipment need to be converted to IP networks. TVCaster 400-ASI allows for sending up to 800 Mbps.

All TVCaster servers can be seamlessly combined to create a scalable cluster of streaming appliances. The number of tuners can simply be extended with additional appliances at any time. Set up and control of the cluster is available with a single log-in to a streamlined Web interface. The redundancy and failover management features of the TVCaster product family allow for meeting the requirements of large installations and greatly reduce operational costs.

The free Software Development Kit (SDK) allows customers to easily access and configure all features of the servers. It also includes source code for a streaming client demonstrating ultra-fast channel switching. The SDK is based on the award-winning Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware (NMM) by Motama and available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
