The Jupiter String Quartet, Addelphi's ensemble-in-residence has their final performance of the season under the titled theme, From Darkness to Light.
Garden City, NY, March 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Jupiter String Quartet, the world acclaimed ensemble-in-residence has their final performance of the season under the titled theme, From Darkness to Light, on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AU PAC) Concert Hall, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.
This concert will feature darker works by Ludwig van Beethoven and contemporary Hungarian composer György Kurtág, followed by the uplifting brilliance of one of Beethoven’s “Rasumovsky” quartets from his heroic period.
The Jupiter String Quartet, formed in 2001, is an intimate group of virtuoso musicians: violinists Nelson Lee and MeganFreivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (older sister of Meg), and cellist Daniel McDonough (husband of Meg, brother- in-law of Liz). The quartet concertizes across the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and South America. They have enjoyed playing in such venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Boston’s Jordan Hall, Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center.
“The Jupiter Quartet, for which the piece was written, played it with lush tone, a fine sense of color and both energy and polish,” said New York Times’ Allan Kozinn.
