Telepresence Provider BrightCom Cross Connects Software Based Video with MCU Systems

BrightCom announces new ability to cross connect telepresence and video conferencing through MCU systems to multiple endpoints. BrightCom has successfully demonstrated this for the Los Angeles Police Department connecting BrightCom with Cisco MCU.

Orange County, CA, March 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- BrightCom, the performance leader in integrated telepresence and video conferencing solutions announced today that the Visual Collaboration System, the processor-based, software driven conferencing infrastructure, now has the ability to connect BrightCom endpoints to MCU based systems through SIP. Recently, BrightCom demonstrated this ability at the Los Angeles Police Department by connecting a BrightCom ClearView Video Conference Room to a Cisco MCU.

BrightCom recently announced several new features of the Visual Collaboration System including the cross connection with MCU based systems and enhanced support with standards based SIP clients including Cisco/Tandberg, and Polycom.

“We feel that this is an unprecedented achievement,” stated Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom. “For many businesses that have both software based and MCU based solutions internally or perhaps want to communicate with partners or customers who have different conferencing solutions, it can be a challenge to ensure an easy connection. BrightCom's VCS allows businesses to overcome this and they can now cross connect with a Cisco MCU for multi-way video.”

The main difference between the two types of conferencing systems is in the output of the video streams. Software based video conferencing solutions, including Skype, Vidyo and BrightCom, re-size and re-adjust multiple video streams, broadcasting them as independent streams with almost no significant added bandwidth and greater flexibility. MCU based systems transcode multiple video streams and then re-encodes them into a single video stream.

“Much credit is due to Cisco's technology for being able to integrate with software based conferencing systems to create a seamless video conference environment,” stated Mr. McCandless.

BrightCom provides a wide range of software based telepresence and video conferencing endpoints including solutions for rooms, desktop, mobile carts and mobile devices. The BrightCom VCS allows businesses to connect these BrightCom endpoints directly to remote laptops and web cams via the Internet, standards based systems including Cisco/Tandberg, Polycom and LifeSize and now MCU based systems.
