APC’s PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 brings Energy Management to Life with APC Next Generation Smart-UPS

Newest UPS management software release enables network and IT managers to proactively reduce the energy use and carbon footprint of IT equipment connected to latest APC Smart-UPS devices, whilst providing highest levels of protection from unplanned power events.

London, United Kingdom, March 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- APC by Schneider Electric, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, has announced PowerChute™ Business Edition 9.0, the first Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) software to provide energy reporting for IT equipment. PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 moves beyond APC’s safe system shutdown and UPS management to help customers understand their power consumption with fact-based energy, cost and CO2 emissions reporting on a per Smart-UPS basis.

PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 has the unique ability to calculate the cost of a Smart-UPS’ power draw in kWh using the appropriate local currency which provides an accurate depiction of how the energy use of protected equipment affects the bottom line. Bringing visibility to the cost and byproducts of their power consumption, PowerChute Business Edition enables customers to maximize the use of all of their Smart-UPS products and truly use their energy better.

“For the first time, our customers can see the energy being consumed, the cost of this energy and the CO2 being produced by equipment protected by our Smart-UPS,” said Dave Johnson, Senior Vice President, Home & Business Networks, APC. “Customers rely on APC to provide safe, dependable protection from downtime, data loss and hardware damage. PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 goes far beyond that by taking the guesswork out of energy management.”

APC’s award-winning line of Smart-UPS products are the most popular UPS devices in the world for servers, storage and networks and are trusted to protect critical data and equipment from power problems by supplying clean and reliable network-grade power. Next generation Smart-UPS include an intuitive LCD user interface and high efficiency patent-pending green mode, unique projected battery replacement date indicator and switched outlet groups. These features are in addition to those that APC has always provided with its award winning line including sinewave output, automated voltage regulation, serial/USB communications and network manageability. With over 20 million units sold Smart-UPS remains the product line of choice for IT Managers.

By using APC Smart-UPS with switched outlet groups together with PowerChute Business Edition 9.0, users can configure the exact sequence by which equipment shuts down and restarts so that more critical servers stay online longer. Users can also power off less critical equipment under certain conditions to conserve runtime. This increased flexibility means greater availability for mission critical equipment. Opportunities also exist to reduce server running costs and CO2 output by taking simple steps such as powering down servers when they are not in use. Turning off unessential servers outside business hours using the scheduled shutdown and reboot capability in PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 could cover the cost of purchasing an APC Smart-UPS in about two years.

PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 ships with all APC Smart-UPS 5kVA and below and is also available for download at www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm. This version provides UPS monitoring and centralised risk assessment reporting for up to five Smart-UPS. Customers can also purchase a version to monitor up to 25 Smart-UPS from the APC web site or via usual distribution channels.
