Antioch, TN, March 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Environment, decisions and circumstances shape the path people take in their lives. The author is no exception. This tough kid grew up with violence as a daily part of life, with a father who drove a beer truck during Prohibition, had been a professional fighter and always seemed to be angry. His mother dies when the author is young, and he turns to theft to feed himself when his dad is hospitalized for weeks. It’s the first of many crimes the author will commit.

"From Prison to Potential," published by Dog Ear Publishing, not only follows the author’s life but explores the influences both God and powerful people have had on his life, including two months with his great-grandfather learning about his Ottawa Indian heritage. He begins a life of crime, small thefts at first, and ends up in prison. A letter from a Christian stranger leads to him study the Bible and to be baptized. He eventually becomes the senior chaplain’s clerk, witnessing firsthand people living by Christ’s example.

His continued good behavior in prison brings parole and a good life for this former scofflaw. The author's humble hope is to inspire others with this book, writing: “He prays that all who read (his words) will come away with a stronger faith, with a stronger sense of the presence of God in their lives and a firmer conviction that God is in control even when we are not conscious of it.”

Author Lewis Dickerson spent more than nine years in prison after convictions for armed robbery, kidnapping, assault with intent to commit second-degree murder, and a felony count for trying to escape jail. He began his transformation from criminal to Christian while in prison. He continues to work to contribute to society, completing a social work degree at Freed-Hardeman College. He worked in child protective services and owned and operated a construction company.
