Team Canada to Play at World Team Poker's Championship Event

Team Canada announces its players.

Los Angeles, CA, April 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Team Canada has announced that it will participate in World Team Poker’s Event May 24-26, 2011 in Las Vegas. Playing on Team Canada will be Team Captain Greg Mueller, and a talented group of young players with solid success both live and on the virtual felt.

Team Captain: Greg Mueller

Greg has been a successful poker player since his retirement from hockey in 1999. Greg won his two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets in 2009. The first was in $1500 Limit Hold’em Shootout and the second in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em World Championship Limit Hold’em. In addition, he has made five other WSOP final tables and has cashed in 21 WSOP events, one World Poker Tour (WPT) final table and five WPT cashes.

The Team

Shawn Buchanan won the 2007 WPT Mandalay Bay $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship, and finished second place in the WSOP 2010 $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Six Handed Event. In addition to his numerous WSOP and WPT cashes, Shawn has made several final tables in PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), including a first place win in the 2007 $500 WCOOP Pot Limit Omaha event.

Erik Cajelais won the 2006 WPT Five Diamond Classic. He won his first bracelet in the $2.5K Pot-Limit Omaha/Pot-Limit Hold'em event at the 2009 WSOP Europe in London, and has several cashes in both WSOP and WPT events.

Terrence Chan finished runner up in the 2007 WSOP $2500 No Limit Hold'em Six Handed event. Terrence has the distinction of winning two online events in the same day in 2009, Poker Stars Spring Championship of Online Poker, where he won both the high and medium Limit Hold'em Six Handed events.

Eric Cloutier, another former professional hockey player, finished second in the 2010 WSOP $10,000 Deuce to Seven No Limit Lowball Championship event. He has six WSOP cashes, including a deep run in the 2009 WSOP Main Event where he finished 124th.

Owen Crowe finished second in one of the WSOP $1000 No Limit Hold’em events in 2010, besting 3127 players. In the inaugural Canadian Championships of Online Poker hosted in November of 2010, Owen topped the leader board, with three final tables including a win, over 11 events.

Steven Goosen consistently makes the money. He has over 16 career cashes in No Limit Hold’em events, including eight WSOP cashes and 1 WPT cash.

Peter Jetten parlayed $75 he won on two online freeroll tournaments into a $100K bankroll in one year. In 2008 Peter finished second in the $10K WSOP World Championship Pot Limit Omaha Event. In 2010 Peter finished in fifth place in the Aussie Millions Main Event, made the final table at the WSOP $10K Pot Limit Hold’em event and made a deep run in the Main Event, finishing 54th in a field of 7,319.

Daniel Peter Idema had his first major win in 2007 the B.C. Poker Championships No Limit Hold'em Championship Event. Daniel made two final tables at the 2010 WSOP.

Nenad Medic’s live tournament success started in 2005 at the WPT Caribbean Adventure Main Event where he finished sixth. In 2006 he finished third at the Aussie Millions Main Event, and capped out the year winning the WPT Finals at Foxwoods. Nenad finished third at the 2007 World Poker Finals and fourth at the 2008 Festa al Lago Classic. In 2008, Nenad won his first WSOP bracelet in the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Hold’em event.

Gavin Smith’s open and talkative presence at the poker table makes him one of the most easily recognizable players on the tournament circuit. In 2005 Gavin won the WPT Championship at the Mirage Poker Showdown, finished third at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, and subsequently was named WPT "Player of the Year." Gavin won his first WSOP bracelet in a Mixed Hold’em tournament in 2010.
