The Medal Play Golf Tour Visits The Legacy Golf Resort

Phoenix, AZ, April 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited The Legacy Golf Resort on Sunday and despite the somewhat breezy conditions were treated to excellent course conditions. “The competition was good today,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “What we really need are more players. Hopefully as the word gets out about our tour we will attract more players and increase participation.”

The Championship Division saw a duel between Joe White and Todd Ringsmuth. At the turn it was all square leading into the back nine. White chipped in from off the green at 13 to save par, then rode that momentum by paring in the final five holes to hold off Ringsmuth by 3 shots.

Mike Edmonds drove in all the way from Flagstaff to participate in his very first event. After reinjuring his hip early in the round from earlier in the week, Edmonds gutted it out on the back nine with the pain to post a net 76 and his first victory on tour. Jerry Boysen took a penalty on 16 but held on to place 2nd over John Saager. “This was Jerry’s first event in the Gold Division after being promoted from the Silver,” noted Freytag. “I think Jerry did very well managing his game from the longer tees, it was an adjustment for him.”

The third time was the charm for Matt Horner of the Silver Division. Horner, playing in his 3rd event, finally posted a round up to his potential to defeat Luther Sander who got off to a slow start and never got untracked.

The tour returns to action at The Wigwam (Gold) Golf Resort in Phoenix on April 30th.
