)-- Gianna Nannini’s first widely applauded album was "California" in 1979, with the single "America" successful in several European countries.
"Puzzle," her sixth album, launched her success in Italy which continues unabated, hitting the top 10 in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
She has won a string of international music awards and has appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Her compilation album "Maschi e Altri" sold more than 1 million copies in 1987. The "Perle Tour" of central Europe in 2004-2005 with orchestral backup was an enormous success.
She reached the peak of her popularity in Italy with her album "Grazie" early in 2006. It reached the Italian number one slot and later that year she toured Italy to promote the album and had another success with the single "lo."
Gianna Nannini specialises in pop opera, epitomised by her collection of songs from 2007, "Pia Come la Canto lo," based around a medieval Italian character mentioned in Dante. The album took eleven years to develop.
One of her songs from the Perle album, "Meravig Creatura," was used on the Fiat Bravo advertisement of 2008, and Fiat subsequently used her track "Aria" for another Fiat Bravo ad.
The Football World Cup 1990 chose her to sing with Edoardo Bennato on their official song.
