Practice Velocity Announces Membership to Health Level Seven (HL7) International

Practice Velocity, LLC, a medical software company that produces the VelociDoc® electronic medical record, adds perspective of urgent care industry to voting process as new organizational member of HL7 International.

Belvidere, IL, April 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Practice Velocity, LLC, a medical software company that produces the VelociDoc® electronic medical record, has been accepted as an organizational member of Health Level Seven (HL7) International, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating the best standards in health information exchange.

HL7 provides standards for how health care providers communicate patient information from system to system so data can easily be transmitted from one entity to another. This standard formatting of information allows for interoperability between systems (e.g. an urgent care clinic can easily communicate patient information to a hospital’s electronic health record if both entities use HL7 formatting). As an organizational member, Practice Velocity now has voting rights to help determine what those formatting standards are, adding the perspective of the urgent care industry to an organization dominated by other specialties.

“These standards of information exchange are used in all health care fields, so it is vital the specific needs of the urgent care industry play a factor in determining what those standards are,” said David Stern, MD, Practice Velocity CEO. “Urgent care is a unique industry that faces a different set of challenges from primary care practices, and now we have the opportunity to speak from the urgent care standpoint during the voting process.”

Other organizational members of HL7 International include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), IBM, Microsoft, and St. Jude Medical. For more information on HL7 International, visit www.hl7.org.
