Amadeus Consulting CIO John Basso Spoke About B-cycle for Mile High AITP

Amadeus Consulting is announcing that CIO John Basso was featured as the instructor for the workshop "The Technology Behind B-cycle,” hosted by the Mile High Association of Information Technology Professionals.

Boulder, CO, May 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Amadeus Consulting, a Boulder-based custom software development company, announced that Chief Information Officer John Basso was featured as the speaker of a workshop hosted by the AITP. The workshop agenda covered topics uncovering the technology behind B-cycle. The event was scheduled for April 21st at the Hotel VQ in Denver.

The Association of IT Professionals (AITP) seeks to provide educational opportunities to its members in the areas of new technology, business concepts, and industry issues. Hence, the Mile High AITP has chosen Basso to discuss this technically challenging and exciting project in order to broaden the scope of its member’s interests, as well as increase their knowledge of significant technology in the business environment.

B-cycle is the nation’s first large-scale bike-sharing program, and can be found in major cities across the US. B-cycle officially launched the company's inaugural city in Denver in April of 2010. Denver has proven to be a huge success. Consequently, B-cycle has launched in several other US cities including: Chicago, San Antonio, Des Moines, and Kailua. It is rapidly expanding, and continues to add other US cities in the near future. The driving forces behind B-cycle are Trek, Humana and Crispin Porter + Bogusky. These powerhouses came together to create a safe, easy alternative to driving in an urban setting. The company came to Amadeus Consulting to build an enterprise-level member portal on kiosks for new patrons that would not only handle transactions, but also track user statistics. To serve end users, the solution needed a secure e-commerce engine and a rich user experience both from the web and the fully automated bike rental kiosks. This software would need to have several levels of interaction including: locally on kiosks and globally with a cloud-based server as well as on several mobile application development platforms including the iPhone™ and Android™.

In the workshop Basso discussed how his company, faced with the challenge, utilized integrated technology systems on custom kiosk hardware to meet all of B-cycle’s desired business needs. The kiosk application employed Microsoft Silverlight™ application design in order to enhance the rich Internet application development. Additionally, the Amadeus Consulting team developed data collection software so that B-cycle users and B-cycle managers were able to access and manage information anywhere. In addition to creating the enterprise system, Amadeus Consulting has also generated a mobile app for the iPhone™ and Android™. The mobile application allows users to locate their nearest B-cycle bike station, get directions, access their Web account and visit the B-cycle website. The functionality of this application makes it easier to use the bike sharing service for smart phone users.

In addition, Basso touched on some of the business results of the successful project, including how B-cycle elected to use Amadeus Consulting's 24x7 Support and Monitoring service, in order to create a reliable and sustainable environment for its Web, Kiosk and Bike computers. Statistics from Denver B-cycle’s first season results were also shared.

As founder of Amadeus Consulting and a major contributor to the B-cycle engagement, Basso feels privileged to share B-cycle with IT professionals and enthusiasts saying, “B-cycle was a major endeavor for the Amadeus Consulting development team, having to integrate so many technology platforms. Drawing on our extensive experience with hardware integration, we incorporated custom software onto the custom kiosk hardware. B-cycle has proven to be a challenging but rewarding experience.”
