Charitable Fleece Blankets Manufacturer Blanket America Launches ‘America Campaign’ on Facebook

In an effort to liven up its Facebook fan page, fleece blankets manufacturer Blanket America has created a fun new campaign using Facebook’s new Questions feature.

New York, NY, April 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Blanket America is showing off its lighter side on Facebook this month with what the company is calling its America Campaign. Every day, the charitable blankets manufacturer uses Facebook’s new Questions feature to ask its fans to vote on all sorts of Americana-themed queries, covering everything from the great "Marilyn Monroe or Jackie O.?" debate to whether they like the Rolling Stones or the Beatles better.

While Blanket America’s main focus is to donate fleece blankets and other textiles to the needy through sales on www.BlanketAmerica.com, the charitable manufacturer’s America Campaign is designed to celebrate classic facets of American Culture. The questions, which always begin with the word "America," have at times garnered nearly 3,000 votes from Blanket America’s almost 155,900 Facebook fans. The questions are also open to new answers — fans can add and vote for their own responses.

The company’s first question, "America, is it Coke or Pepsi?" received 2,972 votes, 1,027 of which went to Coke. Pepsi got 815, while write-in Dr. Pepper got 317. Other write-ins included "water" (which got 121), Kool Aid (which got 35), and a lone "Fresca, BABY!"

"These questions aren’t meant to stir up controversy - we hope no one gets upset if McDonald’s wins out over Burger King, though we know some people can get pretty worked up over the Apple or PC debate!" joked Mesh Gelman, co-founder of Blanket America.

Lighthearted and nostalgic, the America Campaign questions have also received a number of comments to supplement the votes, and fans have been nothing if not genial toward one another. As enthusiastic as fans are about helping their fellow Americans, they’re just as keen on voicing their opinions and engaging with each another. Many take the time to explain their votes, while some exhibit gentle, good-natured ribbing at other Blanket American fans.

"Our primary goal is always going to be help people. We’re always going to sell blankets, but there’s no reason we can’t have some fun. We developed the America Campaign to remind people that while not everything in America is perfect, there are still a lot of great things about our country - the choices we have and the myriad of cultural icons that make America America. The fact that we get so many write-ins is a further testament to this idea. We love that people are adding their own answers," said Gelman.
