The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour Opens the 2011 Summer Schedule with the Rex Hospital "Junior Invitational" on June 5

Raleigh, NC, April 27, 2011 --( The 2011 summer season is filled with junior golf tournaments, running from June to August. The Tarheel Golf Foundation is rapidly growing with over 1200 members. Tournament fields are limited and are expected to fill up fast, including the Rex Hospital “Junior Invitational,” with only one alternate spot remaining. The Tarheel Golf Foundation and the Tarheel Junior Golf Tour provide nationally ranked tournaments at top-ranked golf courses throughout North Carolina. These courses have hosted PGA Tour events, NCAA Championships, and numerous USGA events. Several tournaments also provide exemptions into other major events, including the Callaway Junior World and the Rex Hospital Open, a Nationwide tour event. With no residency restrictions, tour members of the Tarheel Golf Foundation represent elite junior golfers from twenty-four states and four countries.

The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour kicks off the 2011 summer season at the Tournament Players Club at Wakefield Plantation on June 5 for the Rex Hospital “Junior Invitational.” The winner will receive an exemption into the prestigious Rex Hospital Open on June 9-12. The Tarheel Golf Foundation hopes to donate more than twelve thousand dollars to the Rex Healthcare Foundation. The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour will also host the “Southeastern Junior Championship” at Duke University on July 5-6. The Duke University Golf Course is rated one of the best college venues in the country and was the site for the 2001 NCAA Men’s National Championship. The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour will start the fall season with the “Wake County Junior Championship” at 12 Oaks in late August. This Jack Nicklaus designed golf course was voted one of Golf Digest’s top ten best new private courses in 2009.

The Tarheel Future Stars will begin the 2011 summer season at Falls Village on June 12. The Future Stars series serves developing golfers with one-day events in the Triangle and Triad regions of North Carolina and is promoted by the Tarheel Golf Foundation.
