Moyer Academy receives new charter and opens its doors to new students.

Wilmington, DE, May 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Tuesday May 3rd and Thursday May 5th at 4:00 pm, The New Maurice J. Moyer Academy will hold Open Enrollment Sessions for prospective students in New Castle County.

Moyer Academy was recently granted a new charter by the Delaware Board of Education. The school is now operating with new administration and governance by K12, an education management company that specializes in online curriculum.

Named after beloved community activist and religious leader, Reverend Maurice J. Moyer, The New Maurice J. Moyer Academy is working hard to become one of the best schools in Delaware.

“It is our goal to ‘launch engaged learners’” said Dawna Thornton, Principal. “We can accomplish this goal by developing comprehensive, individualized learning plans that make the most of each students full potential.”

Moyer Academy offers more than 130 courses, including career-oriented high school electives in technology, computer science, and business, state of-the-art technology, as well as small group instruction taught by highly qualified, Delaware-certified teachers.

“In addition to an excellent curriculum, we are excited about the extracurricular activities we are offering next year,” said Barry Young, Assistant Principal. “Our new sports program which includes basketball, football, track and field, cross country, and cheerleading, as well as our continued collaboration with the Goodwill mentoring program, will not only support our students academic achievements but will enhance them socially as well.”

The New Maurice J. Moyer Academy is a public school accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year for students in grades 6-12.
