"Spooky Southcoast" is Going to Jail to Benefit Muscular Dystrophy Research

Matt Costa and Tim Weisberg of "Spooky Southcoast" radio are being locked up as part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's fundraising program.

Wareham, MA, March 06, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Two of the hosts of "Spooky Southcoast," a weekly paranormal talk radio show airing on WBSM-AM in New Bedford, Massachusetts and podcasted worldwide on the internet, are going to jail.

Matt Costa and Tim Weisberg, who along with Science Advisor Matt Moniz delve into the strange, spooky and supernatural each week on their program, will be locked up as part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's fundraising campaign.

"In our first year, we focused on building an audience, developing our format, and providing the listeners with a serious forum in which they can learn and discuss all aspects of the paranormal," said Weisberg, who created the show in late 2005 along with Costa. "Now that we've put the word out about our show, in year two, we're looking to give something back."

The show, which kicked off in January of 2006, airs Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to midnight on 1420AM in the SouthCoast area, and then is podcast the next day via SpookySouthcoast.com, iTunes, and a variety of podcasting services. Currently, the show receives over 1200 podcast downloads per day. Since its launch a week prior to debut show, SpookySouthcoast.com has received over 20,000 hits.

Past guests of the program include some of the top names in the paranormal, including John Zaffis, Keith Johnson, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, Budd Hopkins, Brad Steiger and even car dealer Ernie Boch, Jr.

"We're always looking for alternative ways to present the material, so that it's entertaining for the listener. Then, they'll take the subject matter more seriously," Weisberg said. "That's why we like the lock-up fundraiser that the MDA is doing. They're looking outside the normal ways of raising money, to make it more fun and exciting."

The goal for "Spooky Southcoast" is to raise $1,200 for MD research. Donations can be made by visiting https://www.mdaevent.org/ParticipantInfo.aspx?j=d7aff700-45ef-4a77-b574-e1a5c1d9786a or simply visiting http://www.SpookySouthcoast.com or http://www.myspace.com/spookysouthcoast.
