The Medal Play Golf Tour Challenged the Monster at Wigwam Golf Resort

Litchfield Park, AZ, May 04, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour challenged the Gold course at Wigwam Golf Resort Saturday, which is referred to as “The Monster.” “We qualified 2 players for the Nationals of the World Golfers Championship today” said tour director Blane Freytag. “These players will have a chance to represent the USA in a Ryder Cup style competition in South Africa if they win their flight at Nationals.”

The Championship Division saw Joe White cut into Player of the Year points leader Todd Ringsmuth lead by winning the Division for his second win of the season.

Mike Edmonds took the Gold Division for the second event in a row with a net 75 to sneak past runner up John Saager who had some trouble on the 18th hole. Terry Hopton, playing in his first MPGT event, had a good showing placing 3rd with a net 78.

Matt Horner continued his winning ways edging out Mike Pavlik by a shot to win his second event in the Silver Division.

In the World Golfers Championship Qualifier they had 3 tour members and 3 outside players competing for 2 qualifying spots. Andy Castro easily took the first qualifying spot with a net 71. Thong Nguyen took the second qualifying spot in a card playoff with 2 other players by having the low back nine score. Congratulations to both these players as they move on to Nationals in San Antonio, TX in late September.

The tour returns to action at the Medal Play Open at SunRidge Canyon in Fountain Hills on May 22nd. This event will be worth double points in the Player of the Year race.
