Dana Point Medical Associates Selects the 2011 Waiting Room Solutions Web Based Family Care EHR and Practice Management System V4.0

Dana Point Medical Associates has chosen to implement the Waiting Room Solutions Family Care Electronic Health Record and PM. With this system, the practice hopes to fortify lab and pharmacy connections, leading to more efficient operations.

Goshen, NY, May 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Waiting Room Solutions® (WRS) (www.waitingroomsolutions.com), a leading web-based EHR and PM provider, announced today that Dana Point Medical Associates has chosen the Waiting Room Solutions Family Care Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management System (PM) for implementation.

Dana Point Medical Associates, which is part of the Kofford Medical Corporation, has been located in Dana Point, CA for over ten years. Mark Kofford, M.D., Ph.D is the clinical lead of the practice, as well as the CEO of the Kofford Medical Corporation. Dr. Kofford, who has over fourteen years of clinical experience, is supported by a staff of 2 part-time physicians and one part-time physician’s assistant. The practice specializes in family care, general practice and internal medicine, and sees routine, preventive, follow-up, urgent care and minor surgery appointments. The practice has utilized billing software in the past, but is now looking to incorporate electronic records and a variety of other features into its chosen software solution.

The 2011 Waiting Room Solutions Web Based EHR and Practice Management System V4.0 is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on January 11, 2011 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®). It is also a CCHIT Certified® 2011 Ambulatory EHR additionally certified for Child Health with a four star rating for usability. The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). “The Medicare and Medicaid Incentives for EMR / EHR adoption offer an unparalleled opportunity for Eligible Providers to implement tools which can help improve healthcare quality and efficiency,” said Dr. Lawrence Gordon, CEO of Waiting Room Solutions. “We are thrilled with the announcement, and as a result will provide an incentive of $1000 for all small practices that sign-up in the near future.”

Furthermore, the Waiting Room Solutions Family Care EHR and PM has been specifically designed to fulfill the needs of family care practices. For charting simplicity and accuracy, the system includes point-and-click specialty templates for history of present illness, review of systems, drug prescription, and more. The system also provides automated ICD/CPT coding, which ensures charting uniformity for recordkeeping and billing. Some of the features integrated into the software include lab interfaces with Quest, LabCorp. and others, ERx and medication management, EKG integration, standardized family care procedure notes and document management, and an order tracking system. In addition to these features, WRS provides integrated Medicare PQRI and electronic prescribing incentive reporting, which will enable the practice to receive additional Medicare incentive payments under the ARRA. To quicken charting procedures, the WRS Family Care EHR and PM will provide Dana Point Medical Associates with the resources needed to develop a series of customized charting templates. The practice currently has two general templates, one for new patients and one for existing patients. The practice hopes to set up some initial templates that can be modified simultaneously by physicians over a time period until the physicians have agreed on templates for a variety of specific cases. Ultimately, the physicians will work together to create a series of custom templates that best reflect their charting needs.

The practice also aims to avoid the use of paper when communicating with labs and pharmacies, which can be easily achieved through the WRS software. WRS has lab interfaces with major diagnostic testing companies such as Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp, among others, and can directly connect to place orders and receive lab results. Transferred information will be automatically stored in the individual patient’s chart, reducing paperwork and time devoted to organizing these interactions. In terms of electronic prescribing, Waiting Room Solutions is one of the few software providers that is certified as a full SureScripts Solution Provider. The state-of-the-art electronic prescribing technology employed by the WRS system allows providers to create and send new prescriptions and review and approve/deny prescription renewal requests through its web-based interface, connecting to more than 85% of U.S. retail pharmacies and the nation’s leading mail order pharmacies. With e-prescribing and formulary management, the practice will save both its own time as well as that of its patients while also ensuring that orders are filled accurately.

“Through these direct connections to laboratories and pharmacies, Dana Point Medical Associates will be able to reduce costs, enhance the safety and accuracy of the prescribing and diagnostic processes, and improve practice efficiency overall,” said Dr. Lawrence Gordon, founder and CEO of Waiting Room Solutions.
