)-- FieldTurf is the choice of The Georgia Dome...again. The world’s safest and highest performing artificial turf system will be installed at The Georgia Dome prior to the 2011 football season. The announcement of the new FieldTurf surface was jointly made by The Georgia Dome, the Atlanta Falcons and FieldTurf. FieldTurf has been in place in the Dome since 2003.
FieldTurf will install its “Classic” product at The Georgia Dome. The installation is scheduled to begin in July. The Dome is home to the Falcons, Georgia State football, the Southeastern Conference championship football game, the Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Atlanta Football Classic and a variety of additional sports and entertainment events.
The recent release of the 2010 NFL Players Playing Surfaces Opinion Survey marked the tenth straight year that FieldTurf was rated as the top artificial surface in the NFL.
"We are pleased to again have FieldTurf installed as our playing surface at the Georgia Dome," said Falcons President Rich McKay. "Our players have always liked playing on the surface. FieldTurf is a leader in the industry, and we are happy that the Georgia Dome was able to reach an agreement with them to install a new playing surface."
“We've hosted well over 200 professional, college and high school games on our FieldTurf field since its installation eight years ago, and we've been very happy with its performance and durability,” said Georgia Dome General Manager Carl Adkins. “We're excited about the upcoming installation of the new FieldTurf ‘Classic’ system and are looking forward to the upcoming football season.”
“There is no doubt that The Georgia Dome is one of the top multi-purpose stadiums in the world, and we are very pleased to continue our association with the facility,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Through the years, with so many NFL teams as part of the FieldTurf family, we have become the turf of choice for league teams. The Georgia Dome and the Falcons were among the early NFL franchises/stadiums to utilize FieldTurf, and we are both proud and grateful that the playability and safety of our product merits their continued support.”
Daliere also mentioned that the unmatched flexibility of FieldTurf’s system was an exceptional fit for the Dome and the multitude/variety of events that are hosted by the facility.
Twenty-one of the 32 NFL teams have chosen FieldTurf for their stadiums and/or practice facilities. Additionally, more than 100 top Division I universities play their home games on FieldTurf.
The Georgia Dome opened in 1992, and is the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world. The facility has hosted two Super Bowls, both a men’s and women’s Final Four and various events during the 1996 Olympics. The Georgia Dome has a permanent capacity of 71,250.
