DLR Group Horizon Hall Grand Reopening at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado

Denver, CO, May 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- DLR Group celebrated the reopening of Horizon Hall at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado. A Grand Reopening ceremony was conducted on May 4th 2011 by Aims Community College for the 18,500sf building renovation project designed by DLR Group.

“DLR Group would like to thank the Aims Community College Board of Trustees for this opportunity to positively shape the character and quality of the Aims Community College campus, and by extension, the quality and character of current and future students’ education at Aims,” said Richard Sidoroff of DLR Group.

Originally constructed in 1973, Horizon Hall contains over 16,000sf of classroom space. DLR Group’s design for the complete interior and exterior renovation of the building keeps much of the original cast-in-place concrete core and shell intact while providing new energy efficient windows and exterior entrances. The interior renovation incorporates new partitions and finishes throughout, state of the art classroom audio/visual and computer smart board technology, new mechanical and electrical systems, a faculty office suite and student break and study areas. The two building entrances were redesigned with new site walls and exterior benches and planters, creating small niches at which students can congregate. A new outdoor terrace was also constructed to provide outdoor seating space accessible from the student break and study areas.

New windows cut into the south, east and west elevations of the building afford natural light for student and faculty spaces, thereby allowing light fixtures to be switched off during the daytime, decreasing building electrical consumption. Multiple thermostat-controlled building mechanical zones allow for optimum control of thermal comfort by building occupants.

The project construction cost was approximately $3.2 million and the construction completion date is early May 2011.

Horizon Hall completes the second phase of the two-phase Aims Community College: College Center Renovation project. The College Center, adjacent to Horizon Hall and completed in June of 2010, is a LEED Certified addition to and renovation of an existing classroom and administration building into a One-Stop Shop for Student Services. As with the renovation of Horizon Hall, DLR Group provided the Landscape, Architectural, Structural and Interior Design services for the 50,000 GSF $5.5 million project.
