London, United Kingdom, May 12, 2011 --(PR.com
)-- In a recent survey of bibliotastic.com readers the most popular genre was Crime & Mystery with almost 40% of voters claiming this as their favourite genre. Romance was the next most popular category with 20% of the vote followed by Action & Thriller on 15%.
The results contrast with the actual distribution of genre page views on bibliotastic. Romance is the most popular category with 10% of page views. Although the combination of Crime (6%) and Mystery (8%) does beat Romance it is not by as wide a margin as in the user poll. The combination of Action (5%) and Thriller (6%) is close to the poll result while Fantasy (6%) and Sci-Fi (4%) fall well short.
As with any survey the results are subject to statistical bias. Crime buffs may be more predisposed to sharing their opinions in polls than introverted Fantasy fans. Equally, when forced to make a choice, users may express a preference for one genre while in practice their tastes and interests may be quite broad.
Bibliotastic co-founder Bernard Gerard commented: “I’m surprised that Romance didn’t score more highly in the poll and that Crime/Mystery was so popular. After Erotica, which we don’t publish on bibliotastic, Romance is normally the most popular content on free ebook websites. Luckily we have some great crime novels on our site and we’ll continue to look for more in this category.”
Bibliotastic author Frank Atanacio added: “I have written some crime novels which have been very popular on bibliotastic. It’s a great platform for authors to get feedback from readers on their work and I look forward to publishing more of my work with bibliotastic in the future.”
