Trendsales.fi Solicits New Fashion Design Talent Using Crowd-Sourcing

Inspired by social media, this crowd-sourced design contest tapped into a growing business model where companies go directly to consumers for e.g. content, or ideas. Three candidates were elected to the finals and one was elected based on the number of Facebook "like" votes. Facebook’s "like" button was integrated into the website and has proven to be successful as a crowdsourcing tool for consumers to determine what design project is hot and which motivation to vote for.

Helsinki, Finland, May 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- www.trendsales.fi, the first dedicated online e-commerce fashion web site announced recently its partnership with Danish Kaos Design brand, to solicit an aspiring young Finnish fashion talent for two different missions: 1) by using Trendsales.fi web platform and 2) for the purpose of co-designing with the talent a spring jacket collection with Danish Kaos for Finnish market.

The design contest, in which a winner was selected in May, invited everyone in Finland with an interest in fashion to submit a design for a dream jacket with a motivational description why they should win the contest.

Aside from the prize which includes the co-designing of the 2012 spring jacket collection, and get royalties from the sale of the collection, the design contest will give the winner a unique status of having her or his name as part of the collection name.

“We contacted Finnish fashion brands, but they were not convinced of our concept. We are thrilled that a Danish fashion company such as Kaos recognizes the power of Trendsales.fi as a platform to directly engage with creative consumers and style-conscious shoppers,” said Magdalena Pawlowicz, co-owner of www.trendsales.fi.

Within three weeks, 54 participants sent in design suggestions, and 2,390 voted for their friends’ designs.

In addition to receiving a modern and potentially marketable design, Danish Kaos will also get design ideas from the other contestants from a market which they plan to enter next year.

“The convergence of fashion and technology is essential to the future of the industry. Trendsales.fi has provided us with a new and innovative channel not only to sell fashion, but also to use to get an understanding of the trends and demand amongst young people in Finland,” says Ole Overgaard, chief executive officer of Kaos and Auluna Leather Company.
