ANONYA Launches Contemporary Women's Activewear Line Made in San Francisco

ANONYA, a new brand of high performance activewear with an injection of California cool, launches today in time for National Fitness Month. The initial capsule collection includes 8 contemporary styles for women and is currently available exclusively on the brand’s website. San Francisco, CA, May 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- ANONYA, a new brand of high performance activewear with an injection of California cool, launches today in time for National Fitness Month. The line is currently available exclusively on the brand’s website.

Corinna Van Der Ghinst, founder and CEO, had a proverbial closet full of clothes but nothing to wear – to the gym anyway.

“Given the choice between ratty old t-shirts and overpriced workout clothes in wacky colors and prints, I felt like there was little out there for me,” she notes. After analyzing some of the world’s largest apparel and footwear companies on Wall Street, including Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, and VF Corp, Van Der Ghinst was inspired to create clothes that were more compatible with her own values as a modern working woman - namely, effortless style, extreme durability, and locally-made products. She left New York City and returned to her Northern California roots in 2010 to pursue her dream of bridging the gap between women’s contemporary fashion and high performance fitness wear.

“Women are really embracing a more active, healthy lifestyle, and they want wardrobe staples that can keep up,” Van Der Ghinst notes. “I basically created pieces that my girlfriends would want to wear all weekend long, from yoga class to walking the dog to brunch.” The name ‘anonya’ is a loose derivation of a Sanskrit word meaning ‘unique,’ reflecting the brand’s mission of inspiring women to express their fashion sense inside of the gym as well as outside of it.

The initial capsule collection includes eight contemporary styles for women, ranging from motorcycle-inspired running tights to kimono sleeve tees and slouchy hoodies. Made in San Francisco, the pieces focus on flattering an athlete’s curves while enhancing her workout with high tech features such as moisture wicking and anti-microbial finishes. Retail prices range from $38 to $78.

A yoga lover and former dancer, Van Der Ghinst practices what she preaches on the company’s blog, becoming a certified spinning instructor and outdoor enthusiast in the process of creating the collection. While currently focused on yoga, running, cycling, and gym fitness, the company plans to expand the line to reflect a wider range of activities and sports as well as menswear in upcoming seasons.
