Kids In Need Foundation Announces Partnership with American Licorice

Dayton, OH, May 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Grant will be used to distribute 5,000 backpacks with school supplies to students

The Kids In Need Foundation, a national, non-profit organization dedicated to providing free school supplies to economically disadvantaged school children and under-funded teachers, announces a partnership with American Licorice Company, one of the nation’s oldest confectionery manufacturers. A grant from American Licorice Company will be used to purchase, ship and distribute approximately 5,000 backpacks with school supplies to students in selected schools in Bend, Oregon; Union City, California; and La Porte, Indiana. American Licorice employees will distribute the backpacks to students at events in each of the three cities in advance of the 2011-2012 school year.

“All students deserve the basic school supplies in order to succeed in the classroom,” said Dave Smith, executive director of the Kids In Need Foundation. “Children who are provided with the proper tools for school continue to show academic progress and improvements in grades and test scores, as well as academic behavior. With American Licorice Company, we are ensuring that 5,000 students will receive backpacks that will help to make a meaningful difference in their lives.”

"We are very excited about our partnership with The Kids in Need Foundation to help teachers support children at a crucial stage of their education," says John Nelson, chief operating officer of American Licorice. "By working with Kids in Need, we can lend a hand in providing tools that will help ensure the academic progress of children in our communities."
