Key-Systems Joins the Worldwide IPv6 Day

With its retail customer portal domaindiscount24.com (dd24) and the reseller portal RRPproxy.net the international domain registrar Key-Systems takes part in the “World IPv6 Day” by Internet Society (ISOC): On June 8, providers, website operators and internet users worldwide will test IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) for 24 hours. All new customers subscribing to dd24 on this day and using IPv6 will get a customer account with a 10 per cent discount on all domain registrations.

Leesburg, VA, June 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- During “World IPv6 Day” users may access Key-Systems’ domain portals domaindiscount24.com and RRPproxy.net via IPv4 and IPv6. The organization behind the IPv6 day, Internet Society, wants to motivate organizations and individuals (network providers, content providers, software developers, users, public entities, etc.) to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out. With a high load created by real users, the IPv6 day shall be a practical test for IPv6.

Every Internet-connected device such as a computer or a mobile phone needs an IP address for communication. IP addresses specify the data transfer through a data network such as the addressing of the involved network elements (hosts or routers). IPv4, the forerunner of IPv6, provides an address space of just over four billion IP addresses. “In the early days of the Internet, this number appeared more than adequate,” says Alexander Siffrin, CEO of Key-Systems GmbH. “However, the strong expansion of the Internet has led to an address shortage.”

On February 1, 2011 the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) announced the delegation of the last free IPv4 networks. The Internet Protocol IPv6 includes about 340 sextillion (a number with 39 zeros) possible addresses. It could allow an almost unlimited amount of network-compatible end devices worldwide to access the Internet. The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is running: the period during which the two versions are used concurrently is expected to take several years.
