)-- This summer, founder of Irion Books and local author of the Summit Murder Mystery Series, Charles G. Irion, will be joining a Mount Kilimanjaro mountaineering expedition. The trip is a major milestone for Irion. It will allow him to do book research, participate in a medical mission, and commemorate his 60th birthday.
Irion's first Summit Murder Mystery Series novel, Murder on Everest, was set on Mount Everest. In 1987 Irion climbed Everest from the China side and was later able to use his firsthand knowledge in writing the book. Irion who had double hip replacement, plans to keep the tradition going. On June 30, he will begin climbing the mountain named in the final novel in the series, Murder on Kilimanjaro.
The expedition will last seven days with the team scheduled to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on July 5. Irion will use the experience to gather details for Murder on Kilimanjaro and aims to make the storyline incredibly authentic.
Prior to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Irion will join K2 Adventures Foundation for two days of community service at the Mwereni Integrated School for the Blind in Tanzania. The group will be stocking up the medical facility with supplies, and repainting and repairing the buildings on the property. The Foundation is partnering with Project C.U.R.E. in Phoenix along with a team of Phoenix doctors. These doctors will be examining all the children of Mwereni and providing them with basic medical care.
K2 Adventures Foundation is a 501 c (3) organization, which raises funds for other non-profit organizations with a particular focus on those serving the needs of children with disabilities.
