Chuck Thomas Scores a Hole in One on the Medal Play Golf Tour

Beaumont, CA, June 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont Sunday. The day was highlighted by a hole in one on the par 3 eleventh hole by member Chuck Thomas. “I am very happy for Mr. Thomas,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “To have your first ever hole in one to be in a tournament setting, on a closest to the pin contest hole must be a thrill!”

The Championship Division saw the return of Rob Celaya who wasted no time returning to the winners circle with a two under par net 70 for his second win on tour. Season player of the year leader Jay rein was second with a net 74 while Chris Kruger and Thomas Vail tied for 3rd.

Steve Vance, recently promoted from the Silver Division, showed he can compete in the Gold Division by shooting a smooth two under par net 70 for the win. Ryan Ross, Tom Taylor and Alan Forbes had a shootout as all three finished with net 73’s. Ross took 2nd on the scorecard playoff while taylor took 3rd place money over Forbes. Jim Munyon and Jan Koelsch finished a shot off the money with net 74’s.

The Silver Division featured Chuck Thomas and his hole in one. That shot proved to be the difference as he took the title by a single shot over Lou Alvarez. John Maldonado took 3rd by a shot over Greg Widman.

There were 4 players battling for 1 Qualifying spot in the World Golfers Championship Qualifier held in conjunction with the MPGT event. Walter Bodor earned a spot in the National Finals with a fine net 72. Local qualifying will continue through the summer at MPGT events.

The tour returns to action at PGA West Norman on Saturday June 25th.
