State Treasurer Dan Rutherford Discusses Illinois’ Debt Situation with Rabine Group Employees

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford educated Rabine Group employees on Illinois’ fiscal condition in a 30-minute session that discussed the state’s debt and the steps implemented to deal with the State’s financial issues.

Schaumburg, IL, July 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Rabine Group CEO, Gary Rabine, invited State Treasurer Dan Rutherford to Rabine Group’s headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois to educate employees on Illinois’ fiscal condition. Gary Rabine explains, “After having the opportunity to meet Dan Rutherford a couple months ago and spending a few hours with him talking about the condition of the Illinois Government, I realized his passion for servant leadership is a trait not often found in politics and our employees may benefit from learning about this state’s financial situation from our State Treasurer himself. By the end of our conversation we exchanged information and Dan expressed an interest in seeing our operations in Schaumburg.”

In a 30-minute session attended by nearly 40 Rabine Group executives and team members on June 24, 2011, Mr. Rutherford candidly discussed the state’s debt situation, what changes his administration has started implementing to improve it and why “tough love” is the best way to deal with hard decisions.

According to Rutherford, Illinois is one of the most financially challenged states in the United States today, owing at least $45 billion in bond debt, $8 billion in unpaid bills and $140 billion in unfunded pension and health care benefits for public employees. His latest attempt to maintain - if not decrease - Illinois’ debt was well publicized in the last few weeks as he blatantly informed his colleagues and the public that Illinois would not benefit from another borrowing. In fact, he insists in not borrowing at all and cutting back on unnecessary spending starting with his own department.

Mr. Rutherford also mentioned that, as a teenager, he worked for an asphalt paving company in his hometown of Pontiac, Illinois. He spent the majority of his professional career working for Service Master where he was involved in the company’s international growth and expansion. Rabine comments, “During that presentation, his integrity, humility and fiscally-responsible beliefs were very clear. Dan worked in the private sector for over 30 years and he understands how commonsense business practices will help turnaround our financial direction. With less taxation, reduced spending, tough budget cuts and a freeze on increasing debt, we have a chance.”

The discussion concluded with Mr. Rutherford fielding a few questions and taking a tour of the Rabine Group facility.
