The Medal Play Golf Tour Challenges La Quinta Mountain

La Quinta, CA, July 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour challenged La Quinta Mountain on Sunday. The players were grinding for their positions in the seeding for the Summer Sizzle which starts July 10th at Temecula Creek Inn. “The Division leaders had their positions locked,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “But we had some solid battles as players were fighting their way up the leaderboard. The next four events will determine our Players of the Year.”

The Championship Division saw Rob Celaya winning his second event in a row with a nice net 75. Shaun Clark placed second a shot back with a net 76, while Fred Miller carded a net 77 for third.

Jim Munyon broke thru in the Gold Division winning his first event of the season over Virgil Mink in a card playoff. “The luck went my way today in the playoff,” noted Munyon. “The last time I found myself in a playoff I was beat by Alan Forbes at Red Hawk.” Steve Vance took 3rd.

Steve High used the entire course for his win in the Silver Division. “I was hitting it off the mountain, off the rocks, the bounces went my way all day,” said High after the round. Greg Widman placed second and Robert Soto took 3rd.

David Onken took the Qualifying spot in the World Golfers Championship Qualifier held in conjunction with the MPGT event. Onken earned a spot in the National Finals with a fine net 82. Local qualifying will continue through the summer at MPGT events.

The tour returns to action at Temecula Creek Inn on Sunday July 10th.
