Gray Taxidermy Commissioned to Handcraft a 16.5’ Striped Bass

Pompano Beach, FL, July 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Gray Taxidermy was commissioned to hand craft a 16.5’ Striped Bass (Rock Fish) Replica display for the Bay Bridge Marina in Stevensville, Maryland. Very talented – artist extraordinaire Scott Clark, hand sculpted an enormous fish out of a large block of Styrofoam.

Gray Taxidermy mounts several hundred Striped Bass every year but once in a while the request for something unusual like this over sized Bass provides an exciting challenge.

Step-by-step process

· A large piece of Styrofoam is carved out to make the "rough" shape of the Striped Bass
· Finishing artist is hand sculpting the various textures of the fish
· A mold is later created from the finished sculpted piece
· Painting artist airbrush the amazing details and colors of the fish
· A custom wooden crate is built to ensure safe and proper delivery
· To put this Bass on display, a crane was used to hang it to its final location

It took careful planning and preparation in order to produce this large Bass. However after its completion it will serve as the perfect icon for the fishery it symbolizes. The Striped Bass fishery from the North East down through the Carolinas has become one of the most viable fisheries in the US. The conservation efforts over the past 10 years have really paid off. 50 lbs Stripers are not uncommon and a lot of fun for anglers to catch and make a beautiful fish mount!

This enormous Bass will be a great conversation piece and will be an eye catching mount even from far. When you get a close look you will be able to grasp the incredible size and detail of this unique piece of hand crafted art.
