Midway College Ends 2010-2011 Academic Year with Record Enrollment

Midway College ends 2010-2011 academic year with record enrollment of 2,149 students. This surpasses the College's goal it set for itself of reaching 2,000 by the end of the academic year.

Midway, KY, July 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Midway College is pleased to report that at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year it reached a total unduplicated enrollment of 2,149 students. This is an all-time high for the College and it surpasses the goal the College set for itself of reaching 2,000 students by the end of the academic year.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment and all of our faculty and staff helped play a part in the College reaching this historic milestone,” said Dr. William B. Drake, Jr., Midway College President. “Although everyone has been impacted by the challenges faced by our economy, there is still a high value placed on continuing education and these numbers reflect that. We continue to see strong growth in our degree completion programs for non-traditional students offered in the evenings and online.”

Earlier this year, Sergeant First Class Todd Collings made history as the 2,000th student when he re-applied to Midway after having to stop his studies in 2006 when he was deployed to Afghanistan.

In addition to this enrollment milestone, the 2010-2011 academic year saw many other significant and historic moments for the College. In December 2010, the College’s Lexington campus doubled its space and received approval from its accrediting body (SACS) to offer Teacher Education at that location. In the spring of 2011, construction began on the permanent facility for the new School of Pharmacy in Paintsville and construction of the new Learning Resource Center on the Midway campus was completed. This building is now home to the College’s business, equine and teacher education faculty and houses a new indoor gross anatomy equine lab and much needed classroom space for the College’s nursing program.

Realizing there are still more students to reach and serve, the College has set another goal of reaching an enrollment of 4,000 students by the year 2015.
