North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation Appoints Board of Directors

The North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation, a volunteer non-profit organization that serves junior golfers by operating a series affordable, high quality nationally ranked junior golf tournaments has released its new Board of Directors. The Board includes former junior, collegiate and professional golfers, educators, business managers and civic leaders.

Raleigh, NC, July 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- With the support of local corporations, businesses and junior golf supporters the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation has announced the formation of this new, volunteer, non profit organization to serve junior golfers.

The mission of the North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation is to provide high quality, nationally ranked junior golf tournaments in an environment that is conducive to improvement, encourages excellence, promotes friendships, sportsmanship and citizenship. The Foundation is 100% volunteer based and emphasizes affordability, quality and integrity. It is led by a five member Board of Directors. Current Board members are:

Robb Wade, PhD, the Director of Professional Golf Management at NC State University and who previously served on the Board of the First Tee of the Triangle;

Jennifer Wood, an executive with Ellington & Associates, a graduate of NC State University, an active civic leader and fundraiser, avid golfer and active junior golf parent;

Mark Slawter, founder and President of Straight Shot to College Golf, former touring professional and NCAA All America golfer at NC State University;

Bob Gerard, President of GeoMetrix USA, a former college player at Florida Atlantic University and playing professional who was previously co-founder of the Tarheel Golf Foundation;

Ron Cooke, territory manager at GAF Corporation, a former professional with a degree in Professional Golf Management from Methodist University where he played on two NCAA National Championship teams.

The Foundation hosts junior tournaments with playing divisions for middle and high school aged golfers. It also promotes independently run affordable and charitable junior golf tournaments. NCJGF events are scheduled to complement and avoid conflicts with Carolina Golf Association/TYGA events. Entry fees for NC Junior Golf Foundation tournaments are set to cover golf course fees and tournament supplies expenses. Tournaments are scheduled at top golfer courses in North Carolina and are open to all junior golfers regardless if they live in North Carolina or not.

The Foundation opens its 2011-2012 tournament series at the NC State University Wolfpack Junior Golf Championship at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the NC State University campus September 3-4.

Fall 2011 North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation Tournaments include:

September 3-4: NC State University Wolfpack Junior, at NCSU Lonnie Poole GC
October 22-23: UNC Tarheel Junior at UNC Finley Golf Course
November 19-20: Central Carolina Junior at 12 Oaks, Holly Springs
December 10-11: Duke University Blue Devil Junior at Due University Golf Cours

Events are open to all junior golfers regardless if they live in North Carolina or not.
