Medal Play Golf Tour Visits Desert Willow Mountain View

Palm Desert, CA, July 19, 2011 --( The Medal Play Golf Tour visited the challenging Desert Willow Mountain View in Palm Desert on Sunday. “The Summer Sizzle Series is really heating up,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “We have some really tight battles in the Player of the Year races. The final 2 events are worth double points each so it is starting to get really interesting.”

Shaun Clark of the Championship Division, heated up on back nine to outpace the competition by 3 shots. Rob Celaya and Fred Miller tied for second. Clark solidified his lead in the Summer Sizzle with the win to buils a cushion heading into the final events.

Alan Forbes of the Gold Division blistered the field with a net 67 to capture the victory and regain the top spot in the season standings after Russell Gaston replaced him after the Temecula Creek Inn event. David Onken had a solid round of net 69 to place second while Tom Taylor and Jan Koelsch tied for 3rd. The Gold Division is being hotly contested with the top 6 or 7 players having a legitimate shot at Player of the Year with double points being awarded in the final 2 events.

The Silver Division saw Greg Widman continue his hot streak to win his second event in a row with a net 69. Stan Tankersley came in second with a net 70 while John Malondado and Steve Challenger tied for 3rd. Widman overtook season points leader Chuck Thomas with the win. Thomas had held the top spot all season, so don’t look for him to go down quietly in the final two events.

The tour returns to action at Tijeras Creek in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA on Saturday, August 13th.
