Building Resilient Communities

Washington, DC, July 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The InfraGard National Members Alliance (INMA) held the latest in its series of critical sector forums by examining building resilient communities with FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate. INMA Chairman, Dr. Kathleen Kiernan, and KeyPoint Government Solutions President and CEO, Jeff Schlanger, welcomed Administrator Fugate to address a full room of leaders from the public and private sectors.

“Administrator Fugate brings a wealth of practitioner-earned experience working at all levels of government not only helping to define policy but as importantly involving the citizenry as valuable resources in the response, recovery, and overall resiliency efforts required when a disaster impacts a neighborhood, a community, a city, or multiple states,” said INMA Chairman Dr. Kathleen Kiernan. She added, “The Administrator has the unique ability to optimize the talent and resources of the entire first responder community and in the process restore a critical element of resiliency, which is the confidence of those so often severely impacted by disasters.”

W. Craig Fugate reported to FEMA as the Administrator on May 18, 2009 with a wealth of experience in the emergency management community. He began his career as a volunteer firefighter and emergency paramedic before eventually serving as Emergency Manager for Alacchua County Florida and then the Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). While at FDEM he served as the State Coordinating Officer for 11 Presidentially-declared disasters and managed $4.5 billion in federal disaster assistance. He also managed the largest federal disaster response in Florida history in 2004 when four major hurricanes impacted the state in quick succession.

Jeff Schlanger, CEO of KeyPoint Government Solutions and sponsor of the event, remarked, “The ability to lead through disasters regardless of origin or complexity is one of the unspoken but most ‘critical’ elements of our critical infrastructure protection system.”

The attendees included leaders from the FBI, DHS, DoD, the military services, the intelligence community, academia, and the private sector.

About InfraGard and the InfraGard National Members Alliance
The InfraGard Program began in 1996 as a collaborative effort between private sector cyber professionals and the FBI field office in Cleveland Ohio. The FBI later expanded the program to each of the FBI’s 56 field offices. In 2003 the private sector members of InfraGard formed the “InfraGard National Members Alliance” (INMA). The INMA is a non-profit Delaware LLC with 501(c)3 status. The INMA LLC is comprised of 86 separate 501(c)3 InfraGard Member Alliances (IMAs) representing over 42,000 FBI-vetted, InfraGard Subject Matter Experts. The INMA has a dual-focus value proposition. First, InfraGard provides its members with unmatched opportunities to promote the physical and cyber security of their organizations, through access to a trusted, national network of Subject Matter Experts from the public and private sectors. Secondly, it provides government stakeholders, at the local, state, and Federal levels, with unmatched access to the expertise and experience of critical infrastructure owners and operators.
