Do You Have a Form of Online Addiction? Addiction to the Internet Welcomes New Online Resource

Internet Addiction Expert helps individuals, families, and organizations address the growing problem of internet overuse.

London, United Kingdom, July 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A novel resource dedicated to addressing the psychiatric effects of the internet launches this week. Internet Addiction Expert has mined the latest clinical research, technology trends and user data from the web to provide a comprehensive user designed guide for online addiction.

Uniquely, the service has mined the Web to uncover thousands of questions individual internet users are asking about the effects on their brains and mental health.

The results, compiled in a forthcoming book “Internet Addiction: Your Questions Answered,” to be released in late 2011, will be unique in combining specific questions asked by internet users with the latest clinical research data.

Founded by Dr Jamie Wilson, a psychiatrist in technology addiction, who also worked in Silicon Valley as a technology entrepreneur, says “What we wanted to do was provide a resource that directly addresses the concerns of people using this growing ecosystem of new technologies.

“Unlike many other areas of healthcare, our exposure to these technologies has developed so rapidly, that it’s difficult to track with conventional research tools. The rapid adoption cycles and rates of user penetration in platforms ranging from iPhones to Facebook are more similar to infectious diseases exposure than other forms of harmful addiction such as nicotine, gambling or alcohol.

“Bearing in mind that it can take up to 25 years for medical technologies and research evidence to filter down into clinical practice, we need to act smarter and quicker to get the right information and resources to affected people.”

While there is no consensus in the American Psychiatric Association and World Health Organization about the validity of Internet Addiction Disorder, the effects and symptoms of overuse of the internet are becoming increasingly evident both on and offline.
