Dr. Chandramouli of Stevens Gives Keynote on Dynamic Spectrum Access at Wireless Security Conference

Dr. R. Chandramouli of Stevens gave the Wireless Summit track keynote lecture, “Dynamic Spectrum Access Wireless Networking," at the NIKSUN World Wide Security & Mobility Conference 2011 (NIKSUN WWSMC) in Princeton, NJ, on July 27.

Hoboken, NJ, July 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On July 27, Dr. R. Chandramouli of Stevens Institute of Technology gave a keynote lecture at the NIKSUN World Wide Security & Mobility Conference 2011 (NIKSUN WWSMC). Held in Princeton, NJ, NIKSUN WWSMC was a three-day conference covering cybersecurity, wireless communications, and mobility for industry and academic researchers. Dr. Chandramouli’s keynote, for the conference’s Wireless Summit track, was titled, “Dynamic Spectrum Access Wireless Networking.”

“Dr. Chandramouli has positioned himself at the forefront of next-generation wireless communications through his engagement in research and the commercial applications of emerging technologies in this field,” reports Dr. Yu-Dong Yao, Director of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “This is a significant area where fundamental research creates new opportunities for industry and new challenges for government regulators.”

Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) wireless networking and related spectrum policy issues are gaining global importance. Academic research, industry activity, standards-setting organizations, and government regulations play an inter-related and profound role in shaping the challenges and opportunities in this topic. Dr. Chandramouli’s keynote discussed some of the current as well as future research and technology issues in realizing DSA, including challenges at different layers of the network protocol stack, unique security issues, implementation challenges, and the implications of these issues on wireless communications standards.

Dr. Chandramouli’s expertise in this area results from research in the areas of wireless networking and security, and social media security, forensics, and analysis. His projects in these areas are supported by the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Justice, U.S. Department of Defense Agencies and industry. Commercial applications of his research on advanced statistical psycho-linguistic and information theoretic analytics are realized through inStream Media, LLC, a company he co-founded to offer social media security solutions. Additionally, his research group has been developing and demonstrating a cognitive radio network prototype for dynamic spectrum access called SpiderRadio, which is also the name of a start-up company formed to capitalize on this cognitive radio research.

A frequent speaker at conferences and meetings worldwide, Dr. Chandramouli was an invited member of the White House Communications Roundtable to give input on the National Wireless Initiative, Founding Chair of the IEEE COMSOC Technical Committee on Cognitive Networks (TCCN), TCCN's representative to the IEEE COMSOC Standards Board, Editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC) – Cognitive Radio Series, Editor of the Advances in Multimedia Journal, Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and is on the International Advisory Boards of several international conferences. In addition to competitive research funding awards, Chandramouli is the recipient of an IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 Best Paper Award, IEEE CCNC 2006 Best Student Paper Award, NSF CAREER Award, and IEEE Richard E. Merwin Scholarship.
