Villanovans Begin Training August 13 for Bocce for Books Tournament Set for Columbus Day Weekend

August 13th is the first annual National Bocce Day. Villanova Preparatory School of Ojai, CA takes part to support student scholarships.

Ojai, CA, August 04, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, August 13th, the first annual National Bocce Day will be celebrated with nationwide events sponsored by National Bocce Day and benefiting the student scholarship fund of Villanova Preparatory School of Ojai, California.

Villanova Prep will host a morning event called Beginner’s Bocce Day to introduce the fun and easy-to-learn sport to family and friends. Participants will receive group instruction to learn to play and get ready for the Bocce for Books tournament set for October 8th. The October tournament will fund scholarships for local area day students.

Beginner’s Bocce Day will run from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., with a $5 entry fee per person that will include group bocce instruction. A delicious “Bon Appetit” catered luncheon will be available for purchase after your lesson. RSVP by calling 805-646-1464 ext. 126.

“Villanova is committed to admitting all qualified students, regardless of income, and assisting them in meeting the financial responsibilities of a private Catholic education,” says Fr. Greg Heidenblut, O.S.A. “We are pleased to introduce the sport of Bocce to Villanova particularly because it can be played by all ages and abilities and at little cost.” Heidenblut is Villanova’s President and the captain of the Holy Rollers Bocce team that will be competing in the tournament.

Additionally, National Bocce Day events will be hosted across the nation by the general public as well as the bocce industry’s leading enthusiasts, manufacturers, facilities and leagues.
