St. Louis University Department of Public Safety Officers Toughen Up with Krav Maga

Local experts from Xtreme Krav Maga were invited to implement a Krav Maga training program for SLU DPS Officers similar to what is required training for various military and law enforcement agencies.

Fenton, MO, August 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- SLU DPS officers training in defensive tactics system used by Israeli Defense Forces

When SLU Department of Public Safety considered how they would handle an encounter with a violent, aggressive and potentially armed assailant, they turned to a highly effective, battle tested defensive tactics system developed by the Israeli Defense Forces called Krav Maga. Local experts from Xtreme Krav Maga were invited to implement a Krav Maga training program for all SLU DPS Officers like one that has become required training for various municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Krav Maga Force Training Division instructor and Xtreme Krav Maga owner, Steve Sulze, says that “Krav Maga gives officers the tools they need to win in a potentially deadly force encounter and gives them the confidence to act appropriately when necessary. We operate in the extremely high stress environment of a real life attack, and teach officers how to function under those conditions. When things go very badly, what we teach ensures officers will go home to their families.” He goes on to say that this level of instruction actually decreases the use of force incidents in which officers find themselves due to the increased confidence in their skill. The officers learn techniques ranging from arrest and control to how to incapacitate a subject armed with a gun or knife. The training is scenario based and constantly evolving based on the specific needs of the SLU community.

Since 1981, when Krav Maga was adopted as the official defensive tactics system of the Illinois State Police, the system has been taught to thousands of law enforcement officers, US military forces, and civilians in the United States. Xtreme Krav Maga offers Krav Maga and fitness training to civilians and law enforcement personnel in the St. Louis area at its studio in Fenton and has become the area’s authority on reality based self defense and fitness training.
