M&D Mechanical Celebrates Major Safety Milestone - Four Years Without a Lost Time Accident (LTA)

Decatur, AL, August 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. of Decatur, Alabama, recently reached a safety milestone seldom seen in the mechanical contractor’s circle of work when they reached four full years without a single lost time accident (LTA). M&D Mechanical Contractors' last lost time accident was July 26, 2007.

An LTA is any accident resulting in days away from work. The average national rate for a mechanical contractor is 1.7 LTAs annually. The average LTA costs a company roughly $30,000 per incident in direct costs and upwards of $150,000 in combined direct and associated indirect costs.

"The success that M&D has shown in the last four years is a direct result of the efforts that employees have put into our safety program,” said Eddie Evans, Safety Director for M&D Mechanical Contractors. "They refuse to take risks, they work together, and they follow the safe work rules. The main focus of our safety program boils down to one thing and that is zero injuries. This accomplishment is something our entire team is very proud of.”

In May, M&D Mechanical was awarded a national platinum STEP Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) National Environment, Health and Safety Committee. From these recent safety milestones, it is clear that safety is the number one priority for M&D Mechanical employees.
