)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited the beautiful and challenging Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita Saturday. “The golf course is very diverse,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “The back nine is very hilly with fabulous views.”
Greg Austin of the Championship Division returned to action after a layoff in style as he cruised to a 7 shot victory posting a net 71 for the victory. Thomas Vail was the runner up with Shaun Clark claiming 3rd.
The hotly contested Gold Division saw Tom Taylor having the hot hand today posting a blistering net 65 for his second victory this season. Jan Koelsch and Steve Vance, both of whom claim Tijeras Creek as their home course, each posted net 68’s on the day. Koelsch took 2nd place money on the scorecard playoff.
The Silver Division saw Chuck Thomas rebound from a poor performance at Desert Willow to fire a net 64, good enough for a 4 stroke victory. Thomas also regained the top spot in the Player of the Year race heading into the final event next Saturday at Desert Willow Firecliff. John Maldonado took 2nd while Stan Tankersley finished 3rd for the second event in a row.
The tour returns to action at Desert Willow (Firecliff) in Palm Desert, CA on Saturday, August 20th for the final event of the season before the Tour Championship September 10-11 at The LaQuinta Resort in La Quinta, CA.
