Ocean Star International, Inc. Responds to China’s Exclusive Claim to South China Sea

Ocean Star International, Inc., an international shipping company, provides a response to the ongoing power struggle between the Chinese government and the governments of surrounding countries, over China’s claim to exclusive rights to the South China Sea; rights to waters that were before considered by most to be international waters.

Coral Springs, FL, August 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Ocean Star International, Inc., the worldwide leader in international shipping, is aware of the current situation in the South China Sea. China is attempting to lay claim to the waters of the South China Sea. These waters have previously been understood to be international waters and were subject to shipping laws as such. China, in an attempt to gain exclusive control of these waters, has in the past, interrupted vessels from neighboring countries. An article in the Stars and Stripes which was published on June 27, 2011 stated that earlier this month, China had a run-in with a Vietnamese vessel causing significant damage. This past March China also interfered with a vessel from the Philippines near the Spratly Islands. Due to these events, China’s neighboring countries are seeking the assistance of the U.S. government to provide a stronger presence in the area to deter future confrontations with the Chinese.

(“China’s Claim on Sea Leads Neighbors to Strengthen Ties With U.S.”; Stars and Stripes, June 27, 1011. Written by Erik Slavin. http://www.stripes.com/news) Since word of this situation became public, Ocean Star International, Inc. has been closely monitoring the situation.

Jay Morales, Vice President of OSI, had this to say: “We have stayed abreast of the situation in China in the unlikely event that it should cause any disruptions that may affect our customers. We applaud the U.S. government for their support in the South China Sea. Keeping these shipping lines open and in an “international waters” status is vital to the success of the shipping industry. We hope that the Chinese government can come to some agreement with their neighboring countries as to avoid a complete and utter disruption in shipping through this area. As of this moment, OSI has remained unaffected by this situation. Should this change, we will most certainly do everything possible to protect our customer’s goods and see to it that they are delivered in a timely manner.”

Mr. Morales also said, “We are proud of our U.S. Senators Jim Webb, D-VA and James Inhofe, R-OK for their part in a Senate resolution they introduced to condemn China’s actions. In the spirit of free trade there is no place for such events as those that have been initiated by China.”
