Alexandria welcomes back its popular top ranked juried art festival September 10 - 11, 2011. King Street in the city’s historic Old Town will come to life with a wide variety of original fine art by the country’s top artists. Bright, bold and even whimsical, the unique works of art on display offer festival goers a vast array of mediums that appeal to a variety of tastes and include paintings, life size sculptures, photography, glass, wood, jewelry, collage and ceramics. The prices are set to suit all budgets and range from $25 hand-designed earrings to $30,000 metal sculptures. Admission is free and open to the public.

Produced by Howard Alan Events and hosted by the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association, Alexandria’s King Street Festival of the Arts is ranked one of the top art fairs in the United States by Sunshine Artist, the nation’s leading publication for art and craft shows. It is also included on the Harris List as one of the Nation’s best art shows. The exhibiting artists from the United States from around the world are juried by an independent panel of expert judges and hand-selected from hundreds of applicants based on quality and diversity.

Alexandria, recognized as one of the country’s premier artistic hubs and voted Third Best Arts Destination Among Mid-Size Cities by AmericanStyle magazine readers, is a perfect backdrop for this top-notch art affair. The festival attracts locals and tourists from all over the world eager to explore the diverse works on display and for sale. The two-day event appeals to people of all ages including families, art enthusiasts and serious art buyers looking to add to their collections.

“Festival goers return each year to see their favorite artists and to explore the work of new and emerging talent,” says festival promoter Howard Alan. “It’s a great opportunity to meet and connect with the artist before making a purchase, which makes the investment much more meaningful and personal.”

The artists will line King Street in Alexandria’s Old Town from Washington Street to the Potomac River and will be present for the duration of the show, available to discuss their art and inspiration.

Many of the participating artists will be honoring the memory of the victims and heroes during the 10th anniversary of September 11th by exhibiting artwork inspired by the tragedy. These artists were deeply moved and expressed their outrage, feelings of loss and deep sorrow through their art creating magnificent and moving works of art they will display in their individual booths throughout the weekend.

The King Street Festival of the Arts is the premier event of the Alexandria Fall Arts Jubilee, a spectacular season of arts events throughout the city from September to November.
