Savvy Guide, Applying Mathematics to Construction, Published by Outskirts Press

Author Kenneth Williams, Sr., makes construction mathematics and the estimation of materials, taxes and insurance easy with this new handbook full of innovative tips on making calculations on the spot, quickly, effortlessly and without a calculator.

New Orleans, LA, September 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Author, teacher and contractor Kenneth Williams, Sr., announced today the release of Applying Mathematics to Construction, Carpentry Mathematics and Estimating, published by Outskirts Press. Williams’ handy guide for both students and professionals diminishes the need for cumbersome measuring devices and calculators by teaching simple, easy formulae for quickly figuring out construction math problems and material estimation costs.

“While making mistakes is common, fixing them is uncommon” is the maxim Williams learned during his thirty years as a general contractor. Now he has taken that experience and combined it with his years in the classroom teaching carpentry to come up with this fresh look at construction mathematics which will make on the job calculations much, much simpler.

Williams’ formulae, factors and accurate shorts were first used to help his students, but then the author saw that many professional construction workers also could not make simple calculations in the field. Realizing that the use of calculators and measuring devices can also hamper one’s ability to think creatively and quickly on the spot, Williams put together these clever mental calculation tips to help students, instructors and general contractors.

The first section of Applying Mathematics to Construction shows how to make calculations without the use of external tools and contains such innovative tricks as his conversion of a large number of feet to inches in seconds, mentally. Section two covers how materials are measured and sold and, like the first section, offers one simple formula after another to make on the spot calculations simply and immediately.

Williams’ techniques will save time and money in the field and will help students complete projects quickly and confidently in the classroom and workshop.

Applying Mathematics to Construction is available on-line in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
