World’s leading sustainable tourism and travel experts converge to discuss the future of tourism

Toronto, Canada, September 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, United Nations World Tourism Day – a day dedicated to fostering awareness of tourism’s importance, Gap Adventures will host an evening of discussion and debate to raise awareness of sustainable tourism. “Tourism is one of the largest industries on earth. It is worth $6 trillion, generates 9.1% of the world GDP, and supports more than 258 million jobs worldwide. Furthermore, tourism is the fundamental lifeline and vital to the livelihood of countless countries globally,” says Bruce Poon Tip, Gap Adventures’ founder. “It possesses the power to stimulate and strengthen economies, create employment opportunities and foster financial security, in addition to battling poverty and building a stable future.”

“With hundreds of millions of international tourists travelling every year, sustainable tourism is vital to minimize the negative implications of travel, while maximizing its power to help make positive change in the world,” adds Poon Tip.
