Hip-Hop and Education: Using Rap Music to Teach a New Generation

New Brunswick, NJ, September 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Entertainment company Smart Music has just released Lesson One, a new compilation of songs that uses rap lyrics and today’s hip-hop beats to teach students U.S. history, geography, health, politics, and African and African-American history. The songs, which include “First 25 Presidents,” “Drugs,” “50 States,” “Slavery” and “Congress Women,” make learning fun, accessible and more modern for a new generation of young people who are drawn to hip-hop music.

New Jersey entrepreneur Larry “Lak” Henderson who co-founded the company and also wrote and performed most of the tracks and co-produced all of them, wanted to create educational hip-hop music that sounds like the music young people are listening to today.

“Most companies who have approached this idea in the past have not captured the hardcore hip-hop sound quite like Smart Music. They have more of a ‘pop-hip-hop’ version. The soul is missing,” says Larry. “In order for students to be truly engaged and want to learn from educational hip-hop both inside and outside of the classroom, the music should sound like what they’re already playing in their headphones.”

Larry will be touring the U.S. visiting schools and youth groups to discuss the importance of education and the influence that hip-hop has on youth. He’ll also be conducting media interviews and making in-store appearances. To schedule Larry for an interview or speaking engagement, please email smarthiphopmusic@gmail.com.

Consumers looking to purchase Lesson One can do so at select bookstores or by visiting the company’s Website, www.smarthiphopmusic.blogspot.com. Bulk orders can be placed by emailing smarthiphopmusic@gmail.com.
