Small Production is "Proof" There Are Jobs to be Found in Theater

Newly formed Cubanita Productions may be small, but is never-the-less providing jobs for artists.

New York, NY, September 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Opening September 29th, Cubanita Productions will present a revival of David Auburn’s Pulitzer winning play Proof as their inaugural production at the Access Theater in Manhattan. In addition to being able to bring this powerful piece to the stage, Producer Monique Sanchez found this as an opportunity to create jobs for artists like herself, in an otherwise jobless market.

Proof tells the story of Catherine, the daughter of a visionary mathematician. With her father recently deceased, Catherine is left to wonder exactly what she inherited from her father: genius, or insanity? When a mathematical proof of dubious origin is found in the house, Catherine must confront her past, her relationship with her father, and decide what her path going forward will be.

Led by director Samantha Tella (of the Academy Award winning documentary Strangers No More) and stage manager Juni Li, the cast features Monique Sanchez as Catherine and Tom Knutson as Catherine's father. Laura Sisskin-Fernandez and Brandon Ferraro round out the cast as Catherine’s sister and potential love interest respectively.

One of the centerpieces of the production is the multi-faceted set, designed by Joseph Croghan. Glenn Wright of Backyard Visions is the technical director, accompanied by Lauren Bremen as lighting designer, and Colin Whitely the sound designer. Costumes will be coordinated by designer Travis Chinick.

“You can either wait for an opportunity or you can make your own. I wanted to create a way for artists to come together and showcase their work through a beautiful piece of theatre,” says Sanchez. “By putting on Proof, thirteen people now have jobs and a forum for presenting their talent.”

Performances for Proof will take place September 29 - October 2, and October 5-8 at the Access Theater at 380 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY. Tickets will be available at the door and online at http://cubanitaproductions.eventbrite.com. For more information, please contact Monique Sanchez at 305-495-8681.
