Director and Education Consultant of Northern Virginia Tutoring Service to present Strategies for School Success to the Patrick Henry Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association. This presentation is part of an ongoing series conducted throughout Northern Virginia by Dr. and Ms. Perrino addressing issues such as how to identify differing learning styles, strategies that will help the learning process, time management techniques, and strategies for student self-advocacy.

Falls Church, VA, September 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Ralph G. Perrino and Ms. Denise Perrino will speak at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Arlington County, Virginia on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. on the topic “What You Need to Know! Strategies for School Success.” Dr. and Ms. Perrino will address issues such as how to identify differing learning styles, strategies that will help the learning process, time management techniques, and strategies for student self-advocacy. This presentation is part of an ongoing series conducted throughout Northern Virginia by Dr. and Ms. Perrino.

Dr. Perrino established Northern Virginia Tutoring Service, LLC in 1995 after a long career in the public and private sectors. Dr. Perrino is currently an Associate Professor of Behavioral Science at Northern Virginia Community College where he has taught sociology, political science, and business management since 1986. The author of several essays in professional journals and magazines, Dr. Perrino has prepared numerous position papers, management studies, and critical analyses of current issues in education. He has extensive experience working with parents, school officials, and civic groups to resolve difficult problems associated with academic achievement.

Dr. Perrino is immediate Past-President of the Board of Washington Independent Services for Educational Resources (WISER) and Immediate Past-Chairman of the Board of the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Falls Church City Education Foundation, The Falls Church Public Schools Business in Education Program, and the Arlington Public Schools Partners in Education Program. He also serves on the Board of the Fairfax Partnership for Youth.

Dr. Perrino was honored in Arlington County in 2009 with the James B. Hunter III Community Hero Award in the “individual” category, for his work in support of programs at Patrick Henry Elementary School, where he mentors students at all grade levels. This award is part of Arlington County’s annual Neighborhood Day celebration. Perrino “is an outstanding example of giving back to the community,” said Annie Frye, assistant principal at the elementary school, who made the nomination. The Arlington School Administrators recognized Dr. Perrino's civic involvement and experience by awarding him the prestigious Arlington School Administrators 2006 Civic Award.

Denise Perrino is a retired educator and director with 34 years experience in the Fairfax County Public Schools, where she taught Theatre Arts, Public Speaking, Reading, Film Study, and Language Arts, grades 7-12. She was instrumental in the development and writing of curriculum for Fairfax County Public Schools including Drama to the Core!, an approach to learning that incorporates theater into core subject areas.

Ms. Perrino brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the resolution of the many learning issues facing children attending our public schools. Her teaching strategies have been recognized throughout the Fairfax County as innovative and effective ways to help children overcome learning issues to become successful students.

As a theatre teacher, she directed over 100 productions. Under her direction, McLean High School was nominated for 55 Cappies Awards winning 15, including Best Play in 2002. McLean High School was also invited to perform at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. A graduate of Catawba College, she was a charter inductee of The Blue Masque Hall of Fame in 2008 in recognition of her meritorious life in the theatre.

Ms. Perrino served as President of the Fairfax County Theatre Teachers (TADA) from 1984-1988 and as Co-President from 1998-1999. She also served as Vice President of TADA from 1982-1988 and 2008-2009. Ms. Perrino also served as Chairman of the Secondary School Division and Chairman of the Young People’s Theatre with Virginia Theatre Association from 1989-1993. She is also a member of The American Alliance of Theatre Educators and recently presented “Bringing Drama to the Core” at Arena Stage. She has been asked to serve on the Board for Vienna Community Theatre. She also acts and produces productions for Faction of Fools Theatre Company of Washington, D.C. and Creative Cauldron of Vienna, Virginia.
