San Jose, CA, October 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- For the first time, the San José City Council will host the National Cybersecurity Summit to promote cybersecurity and safe Internet practices. At the invitation of San José City Council member Pete Constant, representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, high-profile technology firms, and numerous media outlets will also be in attendance.

The Summit will be held on October 13 in San José’s City Council Chambers and will be an all day event. Topics addressed at the Summit will include social networking risks, online identity theft, sensitive or vulnerable business information in cyberspace, and other concerns related to the public and private sectors of business in addition to personal use of the Internet.

Participating in the Cybersecurity Education Panel, will be Rance DeLong, LynuxWorks, Inc. staff scientist and adjunct professor at Santa Clara University. He has more than 35 years of software experience, with an emphasis on security and high-assurance systems. Rance has been a key contributor to the design and development of the LynxSecure separation kernel and hypervisor. This flagship security product from LynuxWorks is used in high assurance systems and adds extra protection to endpoint devices and network security systems. Rance DeLong is active in the leadership of The Open Group's Real-Time and Embedded Systems Forum. He is chairman of the MILS API Working Group and organizer of the Layered Assurance Workshop. He currently serves as a member of the External Oversight Group for the CRASH-worthy Trustworthy Systems Research and Development project, performed by SRI International and Cambridge University, a part of the DARPA CRASH program.
