Your Time Publishing's Sherry Milam along with Mardi Gras Indian Tribe, the Flaming Arrows to perform at Book Festival.

New Orleans, LA, October 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Latter Library, 5120 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115.

The 2nd Annual New Orleans Children’s Book Festival will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 10am-2pm. The event, established by civil rights icon Ruby Bridges and First Lady Cheryl Landrieu, will raise awareness about children’s literacy and feature books, food and entertainment. The New Orleans Children’s Book Festival promotes literacy by providing children with the opportunity to hear readings from renowned authors. This free festival also features a variety of engaging activities for children of all ages.

Miss Leddy (Sherry Milam) was the community storyteller for the New Orleans Public Library at the Martin Luther King, Jr. branch. She shares stories with children of all ages. She enjoys imparting knowledge to little minds about everything she can think of. She was a 12 year resident of New Orleans, but currently resides in Ventura, California with her two sons, one husband, two roosters, two dogs, and one bearded dragon (named Pretty Boy). When she isn’t hanging out with her 4 year old Miss Leddy is an actor, an artist, and an all around powerhouse of community involvement. Her background includes theatre, performance art, and puppeteering. “Through motherhood,” Miss Leddy likes to say, “I have learned to be a doctor, psychologist, hairdresser, office manager, dictator, and most importantly an educator.”

The Red Feather is a cultural archive written as a children’s book. A young boy embarks on a musical and magical adventure following a red feather and a man with a tambourine on a journey with New Orleans' own Mardi Gras Indians. The young boy meets each member of a Mardi Gras Indian tribe and in the end the history and the mystery is revealed.

Another New Orleans treasure survives the storm, The Flaming Arrows, a New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Tribe who go back several generations is still here, though fragmented. Big Chief Kevin Goodman and the Flaming Arrows accompanied Ms. Leddy to several of her readings last month which filled the air with great literature and the spiritual sounds of one of New Orleans best kept secrets.
