Alice Osborn is the Emcee for the Cherubs 2011 Masquerading Angels Ball Helping Families of Babies Born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Raleigh, NC, October 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Cherubs, the Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research (CDH), Awareness and Support welcomes award-winning poet Alice Osborn to emcee their Masquerading Angels Ball on Saturday, October 22nd from 6-midnight at the Hampton Inn and Suites at Brier Creek in Raleigh, NC. The annual costume ball raises money for Cherubs to fund services for families who have babies born with CDH. Cherubs is a 501(c) III international children's charity. Hampton Inn and Suites at Brier Creek is located at 8021 Arco Corporate Drive in Raleigh near RDU International Airport.

Dawn Williamson, Cherubs founder and president says, “We are thrilled to have Alice Osborn on board for the event this year. We hope this is the start of much collaborations to come.” Alice Osborn, M.A. is the author of two books of poetry, Unfinished Projects (Main Street Rag, 2010) and Right Lane Ends (Catawba, 2006); she is also a professional editor who helps passionate writers write their books. Her writing has appeared in Raleigh’s News and Observer, Soundings Review, The Pedestal Magazine, and in numerous journals and anthologies.

Alice Osborn says, “I’m honored to have been asked to emcee the 2011 Cherubs Ball. I’ll do my best to make sure everyone has a great time as they give liberally to the silent auction and raffle. My hope is that this collaboration will allow many of my friends and followers to know more about how Cherubs is helping families here and all over the world. I also love that Charlie Sheen is behind this great cause—how often is a major supporter a Halloween mask!” Alice Osborn is referring to how Charlie Sheen posted his support for Cherubs on Twitter to his four million fans this June so that Cherubs could win $250,000 in an online contest backed by the 2011 Vivint Gives Back Project.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) occurs in approximately 1 in every 2,500 births (1,600 cases in the U.S. each year). The cause of CDH is not yet known. The diaphragm is formed in the first trimester of pregnancy and controls the lungs ability to inhale and exhale. CDH occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or to close totally and an opening allows abdominal organs into the chest cavity which inhibits lung growth. The cause is not yet known.

Roughly 50 percent of babies born with CDH do not survive. Of the 50 percent who do survive, most will endure long hospital stays, feeding issues, asthma and other problems. A few of the survivors suffer from severe long-term medical issues. CDH occurs as frequently as Spina Bifida and Cystic Fibrosis, yet there is very little research being done and virtually no media coverage.

The Masquerading Angels Ball encourages men to wear tuxedos and women to wear floor-length gowns or costumes and formal masquerade masks are highly encouraged. Tickets are $50 and include entry to event, casino, auction, and ballroom. It also includes entertainment, the Stone Age Romeos, hors d'oeuvres, drinks, two casino chips, and one string of beads. You must be 21 years old or older to attend. A professional photographer will be on hand for participants to remember their magical evening and there will be a $5/per ticket raffle for a Carnival Cruise for Two.
