Metro Showcase Baseball League - New High School Baseball Summer League

Charlotte, NC, April 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Metro Showcase Baseball League is here. Unlike years past high school baseball does not have to end in May. With approval from the N.C. High School Athletic Association a new summer baseball option was announced on April 1st. A new league specifically designed to provide competitive summer baseball for JV and Varsity players in Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Union & Cabarrus counties. High school coaches can keep their players together for summer and fall league play, coach their teams, develop players & protect young arms.

Mission Statement
The goal of the Metro Showcase League is to provide high school baseball players in the greater Charlotte area with the opportunity to improve their skills and showcase their talents. To enhance the player’s high school playing experience by providing professional coaching and instruction, as well as summer and fall league play that will give the players the opportunity to display their drive and potential to excel. The Metro Showcase League will help area high school programs develop their players, and will offer parents a viable alternative to the baseball academy or travel teams.

Player Selection Process
Players will be evaluated during tryouts by selection committee, which will be comprised of area high school coaches and area baseball professionals. Players will be evaluated on fundamental baseball skills, attitude and hustle. Teams will be a selected using a consistent process defined by the selection committee.

Player Eligibility
Players must be at least 15 years old by April 30, 2007, to be eligible for the Summer 2007 Season, and 15 years old by April 30, 2008, to be eligible for the Fall 2007 Season. While graduating seniors will be eligible for fall league play, graduating seniors, or players that have aged out of their high school eligibility (cannot turn 19 before Oct. 16th of said school year), will not be eligible for the Metro Showcase Summer League, as one of the purposes is to help prepare for the next year’s high school season.

Team Composition
There will be two age divisions, JV and Varsity. Teams will be formed using high school boundaries as a guide, however more than one team may be formed from a school zone or zones may be combined on one team. The goal will always be to ensure competitive teams. Each team will have up to 15 players on the roster.

Coaching
Each team will have two coaches, paid by HQ4Baseball, Inc. These coaches will be area high school coaches or experienced ex-professional or college players from the area. HQ4Baseball will also provide roaming instructors to help with specific skills like pitcher, catcher, base running, etc.

League Play
Teams will be placed into divisions based upon relative strength, to help ensure competitive play. Teams from larger school zones will play each other, and teams from smaller school zones will play each other as a general rule. The Metro League selection committee will determine where each team will be placed. The Summer Season will be comprised of 15 league games plus an end of season tournament. The Fall Season will be comprised of 15 league games plus an end of season tournament. Typically there will be four events per week (games or practices) weather permitting.

*Note: There will be a $4 per person admission fee for spectators at all league games to help offset the cost of field use and field preparation fees.

*Note: The Metro Showcase League games, and especially the end of season tournaments, will be promoted to pro scouts and college recruiters. They expect a good response from them, as they will be able to come see many of the top high school players in the area.
