Lab Rescue of the LRCP Seeks Pepsi Grant for Rescue Software

Lab Rescue of the LRCP is seeking funds for a management system to help save more dogs. The group is urging people to vote for its proposal every day in November by texting 109833 to 73774 or visiting www.refresheverything.com/savemorelabs.

Annandale, VA, November 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Lab Rescue of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac announced today that it is seeking a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project to fund development of an innovative animal rescue database management system that will allow the group to manage its complex operations cost-effectively, enabling it to save more dogs.

Lab Rescue is urging people to vote for its proposal in the Pepsi Refresh Contest every day in November. Supporters can text Lab Rescue’s code, 109833, to Pepsi’s code, 73774. Or they can vote using Facebook or Pepsi website accounts at www.refresheverything.com/savemorelabs. In fact, supporters can vote for Lab Rescue three times a day if they use all three voting methods: texting, Facebook and Pepsi.

“Despite the best efforts of Lab Rescue and other rescue groups, many adoptable dogs are euthanized,” said Lab Rescue President Sterrie Weaver of Yorktown, Va. “By improving the efficiency of our operations, the proposed rescue management system promises to help us save more dogs.”

Lab Rescue made this proposal because the group could not find a cost-effective rescue management system. The group must maintain up-to-date information about dogs available for adoption, volunteers, financial donors, foster homes and adoption applicants. Because the organization has many volunteers but no office, it is essential that the databases can be easily updated online. None of the available software or services can meet these criteria at a reasonable cost.

If it wins the grant, Lab Rescue will develop a Web-based management system tailored to the needs of animal rescue organizations. It will not only use this product for its own operations; it also plans to offer the system free of charge to other animal rescue groups.

Founded in 1991, Lab Rescue of the LRCP Inc. is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that rescues, fosters and adopts more than 800 Labrador retrievers per year to approved applicants. The group serves Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C., as well as adjacent parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina. Labs available for adoption can be seen at www.lab-rescue.org.
